The Dzukou valley derives its name from the Angami word which means “cold water” in English. The cold water here refers to the water that streams down the valley. Dzukou valley lies behind the Japfu peak and is at an altitude of 2438 meters above sea level. It is located at the border of two states – Manipur and Nagaland.

How to reach Dzukou valley

Kohima, the capital of Nagaland is around 74 kms from Dimapur, which is another district in Nagaland and also has the nearest rail station to Dzukou valley. Dzukou valley is reachable via road as well, which is about 25 kms from Kohima. Sumo services are easily available in Kohima town and so one can get hold of the sumo and make his way to the valley. The sumo picks up the travelers and drops them at a place by the name of Zakhma, which is a base for Dzukou Valley. Zakhma is also around 20 kms away from Dzukou valley.

Best time to visit Dzukou Valley

The ideal time to visit the valley is from the month of June to September. This is the time when all the wonderful flowers bloom and give the place a heavenly look making the viewers awestruck. The flowers found in the valley are of vibrant colours and are stunning to look at.

Trek type:
The steep inclination of Dzukou trail is 3 – 4 kms. and needs the walking through on pebbles and stones and water. The trek is not at all a hard one and hence anyone can make it but has to carry the necessary nourishment along with.

Base camp during the trek is Ciswema village which can easily be reached from the state capital – Kohima.
Altitude: 2450 meters (8000 ft)

Trek Itinerary:
Day 1: From Viswema Village to Dzukou covering a distance of 17 kms. Takes 5-6 hrs.
Day 2: From Dzukou Valley to Zakhama covering a distance of 15 kms. Takes 3-4 hrs.
